The Scared Spitless Club

What are you scared to do?

Seriously, what is it?   Bungee jump?  Call someone to apologize?  Quit your job?  Speak in public?  Give away Aunt Mabel’s hand-painted pickle jar?

Whatever it is, would life be better if you went ahead and did it?

On Saturday, I stepped on a stage in front of three television cameras and delivered a short speech.  In the big scheme of things, maybe not too big of a deal, but I was definitely scared spitless.  I could tell I was scared, because I was worried about sweaty armpits showing up on local TV!

I think I did OK – not great – but OK.  And even though the whole thing didn’t go as well as I would have wanted it to go, I’m glad I did it.  As one friend put it, “Now you have a new comfort zone!”  Which means I’m ready for something bigger…juicier…meaningful…exciting.

Not a bad place to be!

How about you?  How do you feel about doing things that scare you?

  1. Cool! What were you on TV for?

  2. TV Toastmasters in Beaverton. It’s a specialty Toastmasters club. I was asked to be the model speaker for their evaluation contest.
